Students should be working on their math facts! They should know their math facts (1x1, 2x1,etc) all the way to 12 x 12 by the end of November. This is a large building block of math moving forward and without these basic facts, students will have a difficult time. Students are encouraged to master one set at a time. If student's do not remember their 1 times tables they should start by practicing them all the way to 1 x 12, then move on to the 1's and the 2's. Student's should be able to respond within 3 seconds to show that they have an effective recall strategy. Using flash cards is one of the better ways to practice this skill. You can make these fairly easily or you can use this website MULTIPLICATION.COM for online flash cards. We will be continuing to do daily drills in class to try to improve these skills; however it is highly encouraged to practice this daily at home even if it is for only 10 minutes.
